Gildenarch was the holiest city there was and now it is overrun by demons, undead and vampires. One order still stands, the Crimson Moon, and its most feared weapon is you, a nephilim half human and half angel. The good idea is the finisher: when an enemy can take no more you rip the weapon out of its hands and use it on the next one. Combat borrows from the Souls games, with parry, stamina and backstabs, but underneath it is a roguelite with a limited number of lives. It comes from the studio founded by the former president of Bungie.
Crimson Moon

You each drive a remote control car through the house of a professor who vanished without a trace. And the house is a different place when you are that small: a bookshelf is a racetrack and a messy desk is an obstacle course. You bolt gadgets onto the car, magnetic wheels, magnet grips and a rope to swing on, and each one opens a route that was not there before, so you come back to places you already passed and cross them another way. There are hidden rooms, and staying quiet gets you nowhere here.
WheelMates

You build the deck and then the fight resolves itself in front of you, which means everything is decided before it starts: once the cards are down, all you do is watch. You can upgrade cards, enchant them and stick modifiers on them, chaining one effect into another. It comes with over two hundred cards and eighty traits, and several heroes each arriving with their own deck. Runs go from fifteen to forty five minutes, and in the end your deck fights somebody else's. Made by Sokpop, the Dutch collective that has spent half a lifetime putting out small games.

It is made by Digital Sun, a Spanish studio from Valencia, and it leaves early access with the finished version. The idea is untouched: by day you run the shop and set the price on everything, by night you head down into the dungeon to restock. The new build adds four weapons, a machine gun, armour that raises crits, a whole new vault, another shop tier and a bomb branch. And one you rarely see: the backpack is a weapon, so you stun an enemy and knock it off the map with it, the same backpack you carry your stock in.
Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault

Three monkeys in front of a bomb and none of them has the whole picture. One is blindfolded: he can touch the bomb but cannot tell one colour from another. Another holds the full manual and cannot say a word. And the third sees the bomb and sees the other two flailing, but he is deaf. Nobody explains how you are meant to communicate, so you sort it out by shouting, waving, or throwing a banana at whoever is not paying attention. It comes with thirty handmade levels, an endless wave mode and the option to build the bomb yourselves. You have to be three, not two and not four.

It is out only on Switch 2 and it is built to be played by two people, full stop. You play Maki or Omura, two explorers whose station has been wrecked by a storm, and each one holds a piece of the fix, so alone you will not even leave the first room. It leans on puzzles rather than platforming: you shove blocks, redirect lasers and pull platforms with a grapple. What stands out is the art, a tribute to eighties anime with the frame rate deliberately lowered, and hand drawn scenes by Studio Massket.
Orbitals

The elbow to elbow platform racing is back and now eight of you fit in a race. You run through tracks in a retrofuturistic world with superheroes that look like they came from another era, and behind you a ring of fire eats whoever falls last. Knock somebody off the screen and they are done. There are missiles, traps, freezing beams and a golden hook to yank the runner ahead of you, but what really counts is learning the map: the boosters, the wall bounces and the levers. Online, on a local network or on split screen.
SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed

Turn based tactics about mercenaries and a war between powers, in the vein of Advance Wars, and one single person carried it: the code, the art and the design. You hire pilots and captains, buy ships and get pulled into a war that is not yours. There are over a hundred characters, each with a story and a talent, and seventy different units across battleships, mechs, artillery, fighters and even a submarine. And you can play dirty: hide, drop fog, lay mines, steal or ram. The army is yours to build however you like.
Chaos Front

A cursed melody falls over Palombia and every animal starts dancing without being able to stop. Behind it all is the Mummy Queen, who has brought a concert over from the land of the dead. You run through four worlds, from jungle to city, hunting down where she is hiding, and you do not go alone: you have three marsupilamis with three different abilities and you swap between them depending on what is blocking your way. Playable with someone else on the same sofa. A platformer built on the comic licence, from Ocellus Studio.
Marsupilami 2: Salsa Palombia

You live in East Varnakia and your job is to protect a batch of half built rockets from the capitalists coming for them. You raise bunkers, hire people and put the radio on to educate the troops. And anything goes as long as you hold out: bribery, smuggling and even alcohol. You set up a secret police to hunt for moles, and what you do with them is your business. There is even a robot that re educates capitalists with a revolutionary ray. Made by tiny cactus on their own, and entering early access.

A Soviet wasteland where bullets are counted one at a time. You are a scavenger living off what the old world left behind, and it all starts with a gunshot: soldiers leave you half dead in a ditch and you get back up. You are after two answers, why you survived and what the fog that swallowed Zalesye is hiding. The big news is that this is not the game it was: they raised funding, went from three people to fifteen, the world is three times bigger and factions now fight each other on their own. Weapons are built from parts, they jam, and you repair them by hand.
Scavland

You build a whole village on dead ground, all so you can take down the dungeon that is poisoning it. You raise the walls wherever you like and out of that come the dormitory, the canteen and the forge. You farm to eat, research to unlock buildings and pack rations before heading down, because there is no shop down there. Every settler arrives with their own race, past and temperament, and you take four with you, not five. The dungeon changes every run and the deeper you go the worse what waits for you. Whoever falls down there does not come back.
Dungeon Settlers

The year is nineteen twenty six, ten years after something hidden brought the Great War to a sudden halt and was never explained. You play Clover, a nine year old girl who wakes up alone in a mansion and takes a while to realise she is dead. A doll of wood and metal keeps her company, and with it you piece together what happened inside those walls. Made single handedly by Moonless Formless, and entering early access.
Withering Realms

A Zelda style adventure. You play Lief, an owl making a pilgrimage to an island where, so they say, any wish you make comes true. There are several dungeons with their puzzles, and the trick is a fairy that duplicates items: whatever you hold, you hold twice, and that is where the puzzles open up, in placing the copy where it is needed. Made by desertcucco, on their own.
Isle of Reveries

You go down floor by floor looking for the key to the next door. You build your hero out of the cards that turn up in chests and whatever you buy at the shop. Six heroes unlock over time, each with a passive and a spell, and there are more than ten bosses that each demand something different. Every decision costs, because one bad call ends the run. And watch the hunger, it kills here too. Made by 4Cats, on their own.

Tiny Eden is about turning a small city flat into a garden. You start with four pots and learn what each plant needs: the soil that suits it and the spot where it gets just the right light. Then you cook what you pick and sell it to the neighbours in the building, who pay well for home cooking. With what you earn you open up new rooms and end up building a greenhouse on the roof. And keep in mind that you live in that flat, so you decorate it however you like. And the cat has to be comfortable too. Made by Bajka Games and published by Digital Vortex Entertainment.
Tiny Eden

In Bones and Coins your party of heroes goes down into the dungeon and fights on its own, and your job is what happens upstairs: you sign people up at the Guild and try out who fits with whom. What they drop down there you take to the blacksmith, who forges you new gear. There are 16 weapons, each with its own way of hitting. And underneath, a tree of more than 160 upgrades that never runs out. Made by Troyd Games and published by Rogue Duck Interactive and Gamersky Games.
Bones and Coins

In Tower Lab the enemies have no health bar. None at all. The only way to finish them off is to knock them out of the map, so your towers push and pull, and they fall off the edge. You build up a deck of towers and traps, and the combinations are not scripted: whatever the physics gives you is what you get. You can shrink enemies so they weigh less and fly further. And when you place them there is no grid tying you down. It comes with a level editor and Workshop, so there is rope for a while. Two people make it, Devon Powell and Xueer Zhu.

In Wanderburg your castle has wheels. The castles hunt. The villages flee. You push forward chasing down whole towns to swallow them, and with that your fortress genuinely grows: it gets physically bigger. And you keep bolting pieces onto it. Cannons. Steam-powered siege engines. Towers with mages inside. And knights who fight riding a bicycle. Every map is generated on its own, and each zone has a huge enemy castle guarding it. When they kill you, you unlock new modules for the next run. Made by Randwerk and published by Sidekick Publishing.
Wanderburg

Orc Incremental is an autobattler of the watching sort. You draw cards to keep putting units and totems into your horde, you set the formation, and you let them loose: the army fights on its own while you watch. When things get stuck you can lend a hand with spells, a blizzard to slow a boss down or a fireball to close out a fight you were about to lose. And when you cannot squeeze out any more, the Dark Rebirth arrives: you go back to the start, but you keep the upgrades and new units open up. Published by Playsaurus, the Clicker Heroes people.
Orc Incremental

Desk Top Racer sets a racetrack on your desktop and lets the races run on their own. Your job is the garage: you get cars, fit parts on them and decide the next upgrade. There are 32 championships and online races against people at your own Power level. The different part is in the rewards. Some items move into your Steam inventory, and from there you can list them on the Community Market, at whatever price the market itself sets. Made by BRHP, who publish it themselves.

Cosmic Fear is cosmic horror in first person: you are an investigator following the trail of a presence that has been shaping humanity since the very beginning. And here no fight is possible. Against what shows up, all you have left is to hide or run, while you piece together clues and solve whatever is blocking your way. It is built with photogrammetry, scanning real places, and that is why the darkness and the fog look the way they do. And the best part: one single person made it, Alessandro Guzzo, and it shares a universe with his other two games, The Land of Pain and The Alien Cube.
Cosmic Fear

Golden Swirl is another card game, but here you do not sit down to think: you dodge. It runs in semi real time, and while you play your hand you have to keep moving. The moment you drop each card also places you somewhere. There are four characters, each with a starting deck, and on top of that more than 100 relics to combine. And then there is the Golden Will: every decision you make keeps changing your character on the inside and twists your deck without you noticing. Dark fantasy, and fully voiced. Made by Snako Production and published by Infini Fun.
Golden Swirl

Barbarian Saga, The Beastmaster is a hand-drawn metroidvania. You are the last Beast Lord. You eat the soul of every creature you kill. And with it you take its shape. Each one brings an ability, and with that you reach places that were shut. Then there are the Arenas. There the camera sticks to you and two energy bars come up. The whole thing turns into an old-school fighting game. Your sword devours hearts, and you change it with a necklace of fangs and roots. The missions are told in arcs, like an anime series, and there are several endings. Made by Dormidin Studio and published by Selecta Play, who are from here. It also comes out on PlayStation 5 and Switch.

Valheim finally reaches its 1.0 version, and five years on from that huge hit Iron Gate closes the game out with the Deep North biome, with new enemies and weapons. But there is more. For the first time it jumps to PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, with crossplay across every platform. If you left your Viking save half finished, you have your excuse to go back. Made by Iron Gate AB and published by Coffee Stain Publishing.

WARDOGS is large-scale first-person warfare: 100 players split into three factions fighting over the same zones of the map. And there are no classes here, there is money. You start with 10,000, and every time you respawn you buy whatever you want: the weapon, the gear or the vehicle. You earn it by playing as a team, reviving, carrying people to the front or capturing zones, and it carries over from one match to the next. The map does not stay still either: you can bring a whole building down with a tank to open a path, or put up fortifications to block a route you do not want them using. And with proximity voice chat you can hear even the enemy standing next to you. Made by BULKHEAD and published by Team17.
WARDOGS

Welcome to Elderfield puts together two things that do not usually go together: farming and horror. You grow crops, fish, mine and decorate the house, the usual. Except that here you also harvest eyeballs and teeth, raise livestock from another world, and have to stop some strange entities from taking your land. When you go down into the mines it changes: there it turns into a turn-based tactics game against Lovecraftian horrors. And another of the forbidden areas is the town shopping centre. With the neighbours you can strike up a friendship, or something more, because here the abnormal is the normal. It is hand-drawn with the air of a horror manga, and if you only want the calm part it comes with a cozy mode. It was made by one person, Chris Cote, and published by Kwalee.
Welcome to Elderfield

Gunman Contracts started life as a Half-Life Alyx mod, made a name for itself, and now its author has rebuilt it from scratch as a game of its own. You are a hitman working for an order that hands out justice where the law does not reach, and you go contract by contract: a mob boss, some hostages, a briefcase. Between jobs you train at your base, with a shooting range and a wall of weapons to unlock. It plays with a virtual reality headset, and without one too. Signed by ANB_Seth on his own and published by 2080 Games.
Gunman Contracts

Shroom and Gloom is a first-person roguelike where you carry two decks at once: one for fighting and one for exploring. It all happens in hand-drawn dungeons full of mushrooms with very bad intentions. And here you do not block, you eat. You can roast an enemy to get health back, or throw it in the pot and make yourself a soup that changes the run. The cards also grow with no ceiling, until a nothing little attack turns into something that breaks the game. Made by Team Lazerbeam, a South African studio, and it came out of a prototype from a 7-day game jam. And published by Devolver Digital.
Shroom and Gloom

In SIX SECOND SHADOW each room lasts 6 seconds, and while you run your own shadow chases you, repeating what you did a second earlier. If it touches you, you die. So stopping is not an option: you dodge saws and lasers at a sprint. And grab crystals along the way that stretch your clock. There are 90 hand-made rooms, and the studio says it has finished every one of them, that there is not a single impossible jump. Once the campaign is over the escape mode opens up: 10 very long maps, no clock, where backtracking means stepping inside your own shadow. And underneath it all there is a story about a city that sells time. Made by Tilewise.
SIX SECOND SHADOW

War of Genesis is a desktop idle game: a 3D character fighting in a corner of your screen while you get on with something else. What sets it apart is the loot, because the gear it pulls in can be sold on the Steam Community Market. What the little guy farms ends up in another player's hands. It belongs to The War of Genesis universe, the long-running Korean saga. Made by New Normal Soft.
War of Genesis: Idle Loot

Ex Sanguis is turn-based tactics, and it brings an idea that hooks you. You lead the Stillae, a group of elite warriors. Facing you is the Stasis, which has left the world half dead. Here you can touch time. You speed an enemy up or slow it down. And you change its place in the turn order, until you turn the fight around. The setting plays too: it catches fire and blocks your view. On the map you choose your risk. Either you go straight for the boss, or you take detours and arrive better prepared. Made by Lightbulb Crew and published by Firesquid.
Ex Sanguis

Infinity HexaDome Tactics is the first video game adaptation of the Infinity universe, the tabletop miniatures one. It is about its spectacle sport: fights broadcast from a stadium. It plays on a grid board, and blasting your rival is not enough. You have to capture zones and deliver what the sponsors ask for. You get 12 champions to build the team, each with a role. And on top of that you carry a deck of tactical cards, with your action points counted out: either you move, or you hit. It comes with a single-player campaign and matches against other people. Made by Blindspot Games.
Infinity: HexaDome Tactics

Roguecraft DX comes from far back. It was programmed in assembly for the Amiga. And now it makes the jump to PC, with its hand-made pixel art and the music from back then. It is a turn-based roguelike, and the dungeon is rebuilt from scratch on every run. You get three heroes, and the one you pick sets the difficulty. The warrior goes in head on. The mage hits from a distance, but dies if you look at him. And then there is the badger. If you find one in a cage and let it out, it stays with you as a panic button. You summon it and it fights at your side for a few turns, or it goes and fetches the loot you cannot reach. A full run lasts you half an hour. Made by Badger Punch Games and published by Thalamus Digital.
Roguecraft DX

Magical Blush is top-down action and adventure, with metroidvania exploration. You play Arnin, a mage who comes back from the astral plane. And finds her world in pieces. You fight with five elements, and each one has its strength and its weak spot. You have to choose well, and fast. The spells build up if you chain combos. And around the map there are hidden paths, and pieces of the story that open up the real ending. Made by Alkacer Game Studio and published by DANGEN Entertainment.
Magical Blush

Hazard Pay is a block-pushing game, tile by tile. But look at the job. You are the one who cleans up what other people have done. You go in, you take the papers that must not be seen, and the rest you push into a barrel. Yes, the bodies too. Nobody explains anything to you: what happened in there, you read off the floor. And if you take one step too many, the one who stays there is you. It comes out on PlayStation 5 and Switch. Made by Smitner Studio and published by Smitner Studio and Numskull Games.
Hazard Pay

Garden Ink is about painting. You start with an empty world, blank, and you fill it in yourself. There are more than 150 combinations for putting your garden together, and plenty of them hide a secret. The whole world is your colouring book: you unlock new palettes and paint it however you like. And in between there are minigames and small puzzles that open up more colours and more decorations. Soft music, and a chance to slow down. Made by Kranich, and it comes with Spanish voices.
Garden Ink

Monster Alchemy is an RPG where you do not hunt monsters: you make them. You combine ingredients, you discover recipes and you create whatever creature comes to mind. And then you use them as tools, because you send them off to mine ore or brew potions, and they get better at their job. When you want something bigger you fuse two and a new species comes out. The fights are turn-based tactics, with their elemental strengths and weaknesses, so whoever has the team put together best wins. Made by Team Metacarpo and published by Team Metacarpo and Vsoo Games.

A cosy incremental where flowers get planted with no rush at all. Pushing the tree as high as it goes is the point, because the goal is to escape, and every flower has its spot in the garden: placing them well is what makes everything grow. Seeds come out of a pachinko machine, each run leaves stardust for permanent upgrades, the tree turns into compost to start again, and there are robots to lend a hand. From Kairos Games.
Moon Garden

In The Loopler you drive a car that goes round and round the same circuit, and your job is making sure that race never ends. You keep adding upgrades that hook into one another, and gates on the track that multiply everything. Then you sit back and watch it. Dangerously relaxing. Made by Mheep and published by Mheep and Zero Percent.
The Loopler

Your Story, Games with Death is a medieval text adventure, the choose-your-own-path kind. You play a young lad who wants out of his village and off to make a life across seas and jungles. The thing is his fate is already written and death is waiting for him, so the run is about whether you manage to rewrite it. More than 2,000 events, and 200 of them kill you. There are no graphics here to save you: it is all decided by reading and choosing. Made by BoldBox.
